How deep is deep

Deep is a pace and a breath, not a number.

There is no scale to learn. These are the three things that decide how deep a session feels.

  • Pace

Muscle gives way to steady, slow pressure far more than to speed. We move slowly, and stay on one spot until it lets go or you tell us to move on.

  • Surface

A forearm is broad and covers a large area at once, so pressure feels wide, not pointed. Thumbs and fingertips are for small muscles, such as the neck, hands and feet.

  • Breath

Your breath is the gauge. If you can breathe out while we work, the pressure is right. If you hold your breath, we ease off.

The pressure check

Three checks, each with its own question

  1. 01
    Start

    Step 1: At the start

Before we begin you tell us where to work and what to leave alone. We start lighter than we will end, so your body has a few minutes to settle, then we ask: lighter, about right or deeper?

  2. 02
    Middle

    Step 2: In the middle

Halfway, we stop and ask again. Muscle that has warmed up often takes more, and sometimes it asks for less. Either answer is a good one, and we change to match it.

  3. 03
    End

    Step 3: Before the end

With the last stretch ahead we check once more and ease off, so the session closes slowly. Tell us what felt right, and we make a note for your next visit.

Our hands and arms

What we work with

  • Forearm

For the large muscles of the back, hips and legs. Broad, slow and steady.

  • Thumbs and fingertips

For the neck, hands, feet and the smaller muscles around the shoulder.

  • Palms and knuckles

For warming up a large area before we go deeper.

  • Elbow, with your yes

Only on a large muscle, only if it suits you, and only after we ask.

About pressure

Can I ask for the deepest pressure on the first visit?

Yes. We start lighter and build to it, so your muscles have time to settle, and the checks let you steer the whole way.

Do you work on the spine or the joints?

We work on the muscles beside the spine and around the joints, not on the bones themselves.

What if my pressure changes from visit to visit?

That is normal. We ask again each time, and we note what felt right so you do not start from scratch.

Tell us the pressure you want.

Choose a length, and we will check at the start, in the middle and before the end.
